About Us
Tobi Kennels started by accident. Our son John Paul E. Leiphart was about seventeen years old when he heard my wife and I talking about getting another dog. But Jane said NO! We had a mixed dog who was almost seventeen years old. She was to be our last dog. My son said he never had a dog of his own, because the dog we had at the present time was to be shared by three children; him and his two sisters. He was the youngest so he didn't feel like "Cinnamon" was his dog. So we told him to get his dog now and when he moved out I would get my dog. I was looking at Belgian Shepherds. But a woman I worked with had a book about all the dog breeds that she allowed me to take home. John Paul saw the Rhodesian Ridgeback, aka Lion Hound. That was the dog he wanted. We contacted Jane H. Saar in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her kennel name is Seeonee and this is where we purchased our first Lion Hound who we named lace. Jane was very helpful to us. The whole family loves this breed of dog and each one of us now owns our own Lion Hound. Lace produced our first champion, Tobi's WWW Dot Get OnLion aka Nettie. Lace loved to go lure coursing. She would know when we got close to the field because she would start fussing after we went over some railroad tracks. She knew where she was going. She took Best in Field. We loved lure coursing because the dogs competed with each other.
